For almost 50 years, Earth Day has inspired and mobilized individuals worldwide to demonstrate their commitment to environmental protection and sustainability. Hill Country Conservancy and Sun Radio are local non-profits dedicated to environmental preservation and sustainability in the Texas Hill Country. These organizations are teaming up for this event to encourage the community to celebrate Earth Day not only on April 22nd, but every day.

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATIONS:

Hill Country Conservancy works to preserve – forever – large strategic natural areas that conserve critical water features, preserve outdoor recreation opportunities, and help maintain the Hill Country’s unique quality of life. Their philosophy is simple. Once Hill Country land is gone, it’s gone for good. When HCC preserves it, it’s here forever. HCC is also currently working to build the Violet Crown Trail, a 30 mile trail system that will connect downtown Austin to a rolling countryside of protected lands in Hays County. This trail will soon give Austinites a new place to hike, bike, and access the wonderful green space that has made Austin such an attractive location to so many people.

The Sun Radio Foundation’s mission is to preserve the culture of Texas music with a minimal impact on the environment. Sun Radio creates and distributes solar-powered radio programming to non-commercial member stations with a focus on Texas artists’ and Americana music. They help foster new radio broadcasting careers for the residents of the Texas Hill Country and provide 24-hour a day, free local radio for the communities they serve. Proceeds are used to expand local programming, in the creation of local jobs, as support for other non-profit organizations, to broadcast local musicians and events, and in funding new capital projects designed to increase their coverage area.
