Walk-and-Talk on the VCT with Hill Country Conservancy
January 31 @ 7:50 am - 9:00 am
Are you committed to keeping the Hill Country’s rolling hills and quality of life here forever? Are you an avid hiker or biker on the Violet Crown Trail, or excited by a first of its kind regional trail system? Maybe you are curious about the work of Hill Country Conservancy?
The Violet Crown Trail makes its way from Zilker Park to the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center winding in and out of the woods and urban areas of Austin. It’s invigoratingly steep in places and meandering in others. Every moment spent on the Violet Crown Trail is a moment of adventure, fresh air, beauty, stress reduction, and so much more.
On this Walk-and-Talk, Hill Country Conservancy staff will lead you through one of the most exciting sections of the Violet Crown Trail. Designed with the help of the National Mountain Biking Association, the 290 section of trail dives deep into the woods of Gaines Creek boasting diverse features such as 180 degree switchbacks, rocky creek crossings, and extensive wildlife. On this tour we will walk you through the engineering challenges faced while building the trail, a history of the area, and a discussion of wildlife along the trail.
