Our Magical Hill Country home:

There are many things that make the Texas Hill Country magical. The lush hills teeming with ancient oak trees and Ashe juniper forests, freshwater swimming holes that provide a refreshingly cold antidote to a hot summer's day, the kaleidoscope of bright night stars that inspire poets and songwriters, and the swarms of monarch butterflies each fall.

But we are in a race against time to protect all the things we love about our beautiful home.

We have real cause to be concerned about the health of our landscape and the sustainability of our water supply. Although we have gotten some rain lately, this year's drought has been a doozy. Many ranchers have reported that 2022 has been a harder year than any they remember, including the drought of 2011. Lakes are at a record low and our abundant rivers, once vigorous and flowing are now barren beds of parched and cracking clay.

The Problem:

• A warming climate is causing droughts to become worse and more frequent
• Our exploding population is drawing exponentially more water from our reservoirs
• Land, which helps mitigate extreme drought and funnels water to our reservoirs, is disappearing at an alarming rate.

To date, we have leveraged gifts like yours to permanently protect and steward over 14,500 acres (22 square miles) of rolling hills, swimming holes, ancient oak trees, and wildlife habitat.

Your gift will help complete six pending conservation easements, which together will conserve 4,500 additional acres of beautiful Hill Country land located in the Blanco, Pedernales, and Colorado River watersheds—all of which are essential to our water supply, our wildlife habitat, and our scenic beauty.
