Since the first segment of the Violet Crown Trail opened earlier today, a lot of people have been asking how to get there. We are working on maps and a more official user guide, but in the meantime, we hope this information will aid you in finding the trail.
The first segment of the Violet Crown Trail begins in Zilker Park and follows previously existing trails in the Barton Creek Greenbelt. HCC has established a stewardship trust and is working with local partners to ensure that this area is well maintained. The VCT splits off from the Barton Creek Greenbelt and continues toward Sunset Valley. Below are directions to the trailheads at either end of the completed segment.
The Zilker Park Trailhead for the Violet Crown Trail at the Barton Creek Greenbelt
The portal for this trailhead is still in development but temporay signage has been installed.
Directions: Park at Barton Springs/Zilker Park. The entrance to the trail is in Zilker Park, just west of the Barton Springs Pool. See the map below.
Directions: To access the 290 Trailhead, take I-35 South and merge onto TX-71/US-290 West. Exit toward Texas Loop 1/Brodie Lane. You will pass the 290 Trailhead on your right along the frontage road. There is no parking at the trailhead. Continue to Brodie Lane and turn right into the shopping center. Please be respectful of local businesses and customers and do not park in front of stores.
From the intersection of US-290 and Brodie Lane, you can walk to the trailhead by following the granite sidewalk along the US-290 frontage road. Look for the trailhead pictured below.
There are several other entrances to the trail, shown in the map below.
