The VCT Opens with BIG NEWS!

REI just announced that HCC’s own Violet Crown Trail has been chosen to participate in their “Every Trail Connects” campaign! During the campaign, REI will donate $500,000 to trails nationwide, but online voters decide how that money is spent.

You can vote every day, and each time you do, REI will give $5 to help complete the Violet Crown Trail! No signups or purchases are necessary — just click!

The first six miles of the Violet Crown Trail are now open to the public, but additional funding is needed to complete the next seven miles of what will eventually be the longest trail of its kind in Central Texas. We are competing against nine other trails around the country. Let’s be the first to reach REI’s funding limit of $75,000!

The VCT is a multi-use trail for hikers, cyclists, runners, commuters, and families. Once complete, the trail will traverse a 30-mile corridor of parks and natural areas from the Barton Springs Greenbelt into the rolling countryside of historic protected lands, granting public access to these lands. The first segment of the VCT stretching from Zilker Park to Highway 290 officially opens today!

To get cool information, photos, videos, and more about the trail this week, follow the Violet Crown Trail on Facebook or sign up for our VCT mailing list. Maps and additional information are available on the Violet Crown page of our website.
